US TV critics only needed to see The X Factor premiere to slam the decision Simon Cowell made to fire Cheryl Cole in favour f Nicole Scherzinger. Many American journalists who watched the show’s opening program agreed that Cheryl was a better judge than Nicole Scherzinger (33) who replaced her.
Cheryl Cole (28) appeared in the first hour of the premiere. And even The New York Times said,
“Ms. Cole showed glimmers of being interesting.”
He compared her performance to that of Nicole Scherzinger, on NBC’s The Sing-Off, where she has been a judge for two years. He said that there, Scerzinger was “a pretty face,” “a seat warmer.”
Even the Chicago Trbune struggled to see how Nicole was an improvement on Cheryl Cole.
In The X Factor USA premiere, Cheryl Cole is heard giving around a half a dozen judgements. Critics said she appeared confident, in stark contrast to Simon Cowell’s assessment, saying that Cheryl was “bewildered” by the US show.
Nicole was labeled as “robotic…more interested in tearing up and looking more glamorous than American Idol’s Jennifer Lopez.
TV Guide also supported Cheryl Cole, who was allegedly fired because the US audience would not understand her Geordie accent. The top TV magazine called Cheryl, “perfectly understandable. Well-spoken and charming, too.”
It was just this week, after supposedly making up wit Cheryl Cole, that he again justified her firing by saying the singer was “bewildered” in America.
Would Simon Cowell like to rethink his comments about Cheryl Cole now?
