The first two days of X Factor US Boot Camp took place and only half of the people who initially got a pass remained. The next few days the groups will be scrutinized even more and only 32 groups will remain.
There are five more groups to get through the auditions. Can they do better than the groups we saw last night? The first group draws a Marvin Gaye song to perform. They did pretty good – or at least most of them if you listened to the judges talk. Will the 12 year old make it through.
Two groups get skimmed over and were not featured or had the judges talk about them. What does that mean? Are they all going home? Weren’t there any notable singers in those bunches? I guess not!
The next group draws a Rascal Flatts song. The mostly male group is full of country singers, so it fits their styles perfectly. Simon really liked one singer in it – even though we can’t figure out who he is talking about. Whoever it is, sounds like they have promise to be a contender!
The last group to come through has a good mix of males and females. They are all solo singers except for the teen brothers, who seem to have some weak vocals compared to the rest of the group. They finish and then the hard part comes. One third of all the groups who were on stage that day go home now.
Who will make it?
The whole first batch brought out are told they are going home. A couple of the young girls are sent packing and there are a lot of tears as they leave. Rappers, singers, acts all leave and then the second group comes out. Group two all makes it to the next level.
The last group who awaits the news from Simon thinks he will be sending them home, however, he keeps them. Lots of great acts made it to the next round.
The acts get the news that they have between 35 songs to choose from and they have one night and will perform the next day for a theater full of people. Their dress, attitude, activity and stage presence are all judged. And the audience helps the judges make a decision. Only half, or 32 of these acts will make it where they will be whittled down in to 4 groups: boys, girls, over 30’s and groups.
Rachel, the 14 year old, sang a Beyonce song and moved Nicole to tears. The only problem, the judges can’t make any comment once the performers are done. They listen to all of the acts and then make their decision and announcements after. Talk about tension! There is audience reaction, but that’s it.
A few performers come out and do great, but then a couple more come out and underwhelm. Simone came out on the stage, but forgot the words to her song. She improvised instead and Simon did make a comment on it, that she didn’t know one word of the song.
A few more acts come out they underwhelm, mostly because they have taken songs and made them weirder. Really weird, with vocals and accompaniment! Simon is so fed up he calls an end to it and they take a break.
A few more groups show up and do better, but the judges still don’t know if they can use them, because they are inconsistent.
Stacy got on stage and revealed that her dad had passed away the first day of Boot Camp. She wowed the audience and the judges alike. A couple more memorable acts got on stage and failed to impress like they did in the audition. Were they having bad days too?
Overall, it seems like there will be some stiff competition once we hit the final 32 acts. Once they have the final 32, then they are split in to 4 groups and each judge takes that group home to mentor. The judges don’t know what group they get yet, but they split them up and then find out later.
The groups are narrowed down and there are a few surprises as to who is kept and who is let go. Eight acts are called out from each group and the rest are let go. Or are they? A twist is given to the groups category. The judges pull a few people from the boys and the girls groups. Simon explains that they had talent, but not enough as a solo. So, he creates two groups from the names he called back. So, there is now a huge group of talent to work with in the…groups category!
LA wants the over 30s, Nicole wants the girls, Paula would like the boys and Simon would like the groups. But LA says he would win no matter who he ends up with!
Nicole gets the over 30’s!
LA gets the boys. He says he just thinks he won.
Paula gets the groups. She had said that was going to be a hard category. She says she is feeling overwhelmed already.
Simon gets the girls. He says he just made 8 girls very happy because he knew they wanted him as mentor! Nobody ended up with who they thought…
Simon says they aren’t a team anymore. Now it’s each judge and their contestants for themselves!
