Marcus Canty and Rachel Crow found themselves in the bottom two after the public vote and had to sing for survival following their Top 5 live performances. It had gone to deadlock after Nicole Scherzinger struggled to decide between the two. Then it was revealed Rachel had received the fewest number of public votes.
Millions saw a heartbroken Rachel collapse on stage after being eliminated. Canty said he was devastated to see her so upset and being unable to help her. He said he treated her like a little sister during the show.
Canty admits he was also surprised to see Rachel Crow eliminated. After hearing her survival song he said he thought it was the end of the road for him. In fact, even before that, when landing in the bottom two with her, Marcus thought he’d be the one to go home.
Then, after hearing her sing, he thought,
“How the heck am I getting through this week?”
When he did have a chance to talk to Rachel Crow (13) following the X Factor results show, he said he told her,
“You out-sang me tonight and no matter what you know I still love you.”
Rachel, however, was still in tears and struggling to deal with the elimination. However, we know that after that she pulled herself together and even managed to console Nicole Scherzinger, who was the judge who could have saved her over Canty.
It kind of got lost in the drama and emotion of the elimination, but looking back, Paula Abdul can clearly be seen advising Scherzinger to take the vote to deadlock. At least that way, it was public votes that decided the outcome.
I wonder how many people, like me and maybe like Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, given their reactions, were shocked that it was Rachel, not Marcus, who gained the fewest votes?
