It has been reported that TV bosses have decided not to renew the Welshman’s contract for the show’s upcoming second season after he failed to win over critics and audiences.
Jones beat out fellow British TV presenters Dermot O’Leary and Cat Deeley for the coveted role as the host of the first ever season of The X Factor USA. He is said to be “devastated” to have lost such a prestigious job.
The report of Steve Jones’ contract end is being reported by a British newspaper, the Daily Mirror. In the article, a source said that Steve loves the LA lifestyle and the weather. He is also well known as a ladies man and is enjoying his Stateside fame. But it seems that the US public has not warmed to him.
His reviews from critics when he started were almost universally negative and it seems that things have not got any better as he has made mistakes and is allegedly not very good at dealing with contestants.
So, apparently, Fox executives have already decided not to renew his contract and barring a miracle turnaround, Steve Jones will not be involved in next season and The X Factor USA will be looking for a new host.
Judge Nicole Scherzinger has been tipped to replace Jones, which is ironic because she has reportedly been axed as a judge and mentor due to a disappointing performance in that role, too. Being instrumental in sending teenage acts Drew and Rachel Crow home have seriously dented her popularity with fans.
A spokesman for The X Factor USA refused to confirm or deny that Steve Jones has been axed as host, so watch this space!
