X Factor USA Chris Rene: Performing Original Song was Healing

X Factor USA contestant Chris Rene said he felt “incredible” after singing an original song of his on the show last week.

Last Wednesday night, Chris sang Where Do We Go From Here? – a song he wrote himself. This was his second self-penned track to be performed on the show, after he initially blew away the judges with a song called Young Homie at his initial audition for the reality TV show.

Chris Rene stated on the official X Factor website that this was “the best feeling” for him,” to perform his own music. He cites young Home as his previous favorite performance, although he “had a blast” performing all the other songs. However, he said that performing his own song was “healing.”

Judge Simon Cowell called the decision t perform original music at this stage of the competition “either stupidity or a stroke of genius,” but he came down on it being “a stroke of genius” after hearing Chris’ performance last week.

Chris Rene hinted that Young Homie may be released as a download at some point, but he says he wants to re-record it and make it exactly to his own specifications.

“I produced that and it touched millions of people, so I see no reason to not produce it myself.” Chris said.

Chris said it is “nerve-wracking and scary” to be at this stage of the competition, with the end so close. “I just hope I can stay in the competition and continue to do a great job,” he continued.

Tonight, the Top 4 contestants will perform a track chosen by the viewers as part of the Pepsi Challenge.
