X Factor USA 2011 Finally Premieres: Awesomeness, Nudity and Drama!

So Simon Cowell has been pushing for X Factor in the US for about a year now. The hype, the fights between Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger as judges…does all of that drama live up to the expectations for the show? Does Paula Abdul bring it for this judge’s panel like she did on American Idol?

The show actually starts out with a video clip of all the drama from the cast and the crew. Tears, hissy fits, tears again and then Simon saying it isn’t working. Gee, how do you build interest fast? Make people think that the whole show and nine months’ worth of PR isn’t going to work.

And did I mention there were 20,000 people who showed up to try out just in LA for the huge prize? The winner gets $5 million, which is the largest prize handed out thus far. The judges are Simon Cowell, LA Reid, Cheryl Cole, Paula Abdul. Wait, wasn’t Cheryl fired and Nicole Scherzinger hired? I guess we’ll have to watch that drama unfold some time throughout the show.

Auditions will start and once the finalists are picked, they will be divided in to categories of boys, girls, groups and over 30s. They will then be judged farther once they get picked and narrowed down in to semi-finalists.

First up? A 13 year old named Rachel Crow. She wows the audience and the judges with her personality before she even sings. Can she sing? For a 13 year old, she brings it! Actually, she sings better than most adults do – or will on the show coming up!

Paula said she delivered the goods and is exactly what is needed for the stage. Let’s just crown her a winner now. Even Simon gave her praise. Do we need to see any more of the show this season? Maybe.
A lot more auditions, a few worthy names. Where’s the drama? There was a Justin Bieber lookalike who could sing Cee Lo Green, a man who flirted with Cheryl and a few more groups. A man who thought he was a superstar and could attract chicks drew some attention, but not necessarily because of his voice.

Dan and Venita showed up. Yes, Dan and Venita, the 70 and 83 year old couple who got up there and showed a lot of heart but not a lot of voice talent. He started out strong, but then she chimed in and it went downhill from there. We might have another cultural phenomenon on our hands though…so keep their names in the back of your mind.

A few more bad auditions, a few more people sassing back to the judges. A little bit of drama. The build up of a battle between Simon and LA is featured, as they disagree over many of the auditions. Then Stacy Francis shows up, a mom who has been pushed around and decides to stand up for herself and sing, even though she has been told she was too old for LA for twelve years – she’s just 42 years old. Now Rachel Crow might have some competition!

As the auditions heads to Seattle, we now have drama! Nicole is suddenly in and Cheryl is suddenly out. The drama heats up when Geo gets on stage in his velour leisure suit and sings a song he wrote about being a stud and drops his pants. Drops his pants on stage – really! They let him finish the song and dance around bare-assed. Paula was so ill she had to leave the stage. Where was security?

There were a lot of bright spots in Seattle though. Chris and Marcus both have something to prove. And LA and Simon made Chris promise he had to stay clean through the whole process, since he told them he was fresh out of rehab and was sober for 70 days.

A few people argued with the judges, but overall, it was a touching show. I am excited to see some of this talent perform in the future. Who can still be standing at the end? I’m not even sure who my favorite was. There was great humanity in Simon this time too…is he a changed man?
