It’s perhaps the fact that it is Russell Brand divorcing Katy Perry rather then the other way around that is the most surprising part of the end of this celebrity couple. But that has easily been explained away. Katy’s parents are very religious Evangelical Christians who have raised her to believe that divorce is wrong. So getting Russell to the deed and file the divorce papers takes some heat of her with the ‘rents.
But why are they splitting up at all? There are two competing theories of why these apparent opposites are splitting now. But they fit together nicely.
Russell is older than Katy, a recovering heroin addict who is also a non-drinker. So he likes a quiet life away from the temptations of drugs and alcohol. Katy, on the other hand, likes to party. There have been several reports recently of blazing rows between the couple as Russell wanted to leave parties or bars but Katy didn’t want to go home.
The other explanation for the divorce that is gaining support is that Russell Brand wanted to settle down and have a family with Katy but she wasn’t ready for that.
The divorce papers filed on December 30 by Brand cite “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split.
A source told British newspaper The Daily Mirror,
“Russell left his party lifestyle behind a long time ago because it nearly killed him. All he wanted to do is stay at home, do his yoga, keep his demons away and have a family with Katy.”
Apparently, that’s not what Katy wanted. But an aide to the couple has claimed that he eventual filing was a childish case of one-upmanship, Russell divorcing Katy before she had a chance to divorce him. He suggested Katy did not even know that her husband was going to file the papers.
Whatever the reasons, whoever made the decision, the divorce is set to cost Katy Perry a lot of money.
