Valerie Harper has terminal brain cancer and the world learned Wednesday that the actress has just three months to live. Harper found out she was dying on Jan. 15, 2012. She was diagnosed with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare type of cancer that spreads to cells in the membrane.
“The Mary Tyler Moore Show” actress had already battled lung cancer back in 2009. This tragic diagnosis isn’t getting Harper down — at least on the surface. She’s keeping her spirits up and refuses to dwell on dying.
“I don’t think about dying,” she told People magazine. “I think of being here now.”
The 73-year-old actress from New Jersey who portrayed the hilarious and lovable Rhoda Morgenstern on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” recently published a book entitled “I Rhoda.” She revealed her beginnings as a chorus girl on Broadway before getting the role of Rhoda on “Mary Tyler Moore.”
In the People interview coming out Friday, Harper says on the cover, “Don’t miss your life.”
