It’s time for the live performances where the audience actually gets to vote! Lots of background information on the singers before they hit the stage. I think all of these final 12 will end up with contracts because so many people connect with all of them now.
The Stereo Hogzz are up next and it shows how Paula has worked with them on choreography. How will the five do? They sing Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation and a whole clan of dancers come out. Is it too much dancing and lights and not enough vocals? LA thought so and so did Nicole. And even Simon did.
Next up is Chris Rene. He says he is having a hard time with other people’s lyrics. Will they give him a chance with his own song? What song can he connect with to make his own? Nicole liked him, Simon even liked him.
Next up is LeRoy Bell, the 60 year old performer. His song seems a little bit off when he starts, but can he pull it off with emotion and vocals? LA didn’t like the song, but Paula said she did. Simon said he has a confidence issue and that Nicole hasn’t picked the right songs for him. Nicole tells him sometimes less is more.
Rachel Crow, the 13 year old gets to take the stage. She sings Walking on Sunshine, with background graphics and dancers. She makes it her own a bit, but did it work? Not as much as before. But she is still cute and her powerful voice comes through. LA said she is charismatic, Nicole says she is America’s sunshine.
Lakoda Rayne sings Fleetwood Mac and they seem a bit off on the vocals too. They didn’t stand out musically much, and LA nailed them on it. Nicole says they sounded good and Simon said they sounded good but he didn’t like the theme of their dress. They looked gorgeous, but he thought the four season theme was ridiculous.
The next person on the stage is Josh and can he stand up vocally like he has in the past? It is a stretch for him, but he does well with it. I wish Nicole would pick better songs for her acts, because they aren’t as well known as they should be by the fans. Well known songs will get the votes! LA digs him, Paula says he nails everything he touches. Simon says it was an incredible version and a good risk taken by him.
Melanie gets another turn on the stage and has to step out of her box. We know she can sing, but what is her range? She takes the stage and sings Desperado. LA and Nicole loved her voice and told her she was great. Simon said he didn’t realize how good she was up until that point. He says she is the one to beat.
Up next, Astro. Can the child rapper keep it up and get the audience revved up? He struggles over the words a little bit, but he keeps up the beat like no other could probably. The dancers help him out a lot. He can work the crowd with his version, but does he have range in his songs? He doesn’t sing like the others, but he is entertaining. Nicole compliments he did great and even better when she found out he wrote those lyrics.
InTENsity needs another strong performance, simply because all ten of them have to gel as well as do their best. They have Ellona take the vocal lead which is probably a smart idea, because she is awesome. Not sure if the whole High School talent show feel will be popular enough to sell records. LA says they were fun, Nicole says they were fantastic. Simon even agrees they were terrific.
Drew gets her turn and she keeps the folksy image with rose petals all over the stage. She sings lovely and makes the song her own. LA says her voice tone is amazing and she is great. Nicole even compliments Simon on the song choice for her. Wow.
Marcus is up next. He takes the stage and has all the dancing girls with varsity jackets and doing the 80s song. It kind of works…the background takes over him a bit. The dancers are also a bit distracting. Will Simon mention it or love him? Simon says he has come a long way and gave LA props for picking him and the song.
Next up is Stacy, who is full of vocal power and emotion. Nicole picked a Gospel song for her and Simon agrees with the song. Can she wail on the song? She sure does. I think Simon was right on it. Will he take credit for it? LA says she is more poised and getting it together. Simon does and offers Stacy a kiss for the great song. Slams Nicole in the process, but calls it one of the best performances of the night.
Tomorrow is the results show. Who is the first of the top 12 to go home?
