Stacy is up first and what happened to her forehead? No bangs for her. Stacy is singing a song from The Bodyguard and LA doesn’t agree with it, partly because he co-wrote it. He thinks it is just the wrong song for her. Her confidence looks better and she seems to do a good job with it. Right away, LA says he didn’t like the song choice but she did better with it than he expected. Simon didn’t like what she was wearing.
Marcus gets to have a turn. LA is taking away the dancing so they can focus on the vocals. Will it work for him? Nicole and Paula loved him, but have they not liked anyone? Simon comments on his outfit as well, but who cares. He sounded great.
Drew is up next. Simon thinks she will be a great star, even though she is only 14. Simon is challenging her this week. Will she match expectations? She has a crazy dress on and funky hair, but her voice sounds like normal. LA says he needs diversity from her. Nicole says she is brilliant beyond her years. Paula says she doesn’t like what Drew is wearing. I guess they are critiquing style as well as vocals tonight.
Next up is LeRoy. Is he singing a U2 song? He is doing a decent job of it, but I think I have heard him do better. There don’t seem to be any blow out performances like there was last week. LA liked him better than last week and Simon said he came out and sang like a 20 year old and not a 60 year old.
Lakoda Rayne is the first group of the night from Paula. LA thinks they have an identity problem, so they come out with a country/pop song. They sing a Keith urban song – but is it from a movie? Anyway, they seem to do OK with it, but a few long notes seem out of tune. LA likes them, Nicole likes them too. But Simon…he is glad they have become the group he hoped for them.
The next artist up is Astro. He wrote another song for himself this week and Nicole thinks it is too much pressure for him. But LA says he can do 10 – does he already have plans for him? Astro raps pretty good on the stage, but is his sound getting old? Nope. Nicole and Paula both think he is a super star. Simon says he has the X factor. Wow.
Melanie hits the stage but has been suffering from a sore throat. Will it hurt her live performance? Nope. She takes a Michael Jackson song and nails it. LA says it was really good, but not inventive. He thinks Simon picked the wrong song, but Nicole loved it. Paula said she was remarkable.
Steroe Hogzz got up and managed a great show without too much background distraction. Paula did a nice job picking their song and of course, Nicole loved them. LA, not so much. Simon, can he get any nicer tonight? He liked them too…a bit, considering they weren’t one of his acts.
Josh got up and did an awesome song for his vocal range. A great oldie with a lot of soul and folk in it. The judges all agreed he can belt it out. But LA thinks some of the acts – not just him – are being pigeonholed. Is that true? Nicole loved his performance.
Chris continues to wow fans with his ability to rap while maintaining sobriety. Can he handle the pressure of dining other people’s work or will he try his own? His song was pretty good and Nicole and Paula loved him. Predictable. Have they not liked anybody? Simon is a bit pickier, but we can tell he likes his girls the best.
Rachel takes the stage and wows with her voice. Again. She sings a soul song that might be the performance of the night! LA just says WOW. He says she proved herself as a potential winner. Nicole says she is glad Simon took her advice and picked a song. But then Rachel says she picked it herself. Funny.
