‘The X Factor’ Season 2 Winner Is…

Did Fifth Harmony, Carly, or Tate just win $5 million and the “X Factor” Champion title? Remember what I said yesterday about this being a competition more about popularity than music? Well, Tate Stevens just proved that!

Yes, Tate Stevens the country classic romped home the winner ahead of teenage sensation Carly and totally current group Fifth Harmony.

Don’t get me wrong: I love a bit of country. Remember my regular crush-fests over Scotty McCreery? But come on…Tate? Not Carly? Sigh!

Anyway, here’s how the good guy won:

35 million votes and a two-hour “grand finale” with performances by Pitbull and One Direction), led up to Tate Stevens being crowned The X Factor season 2 champ.

The 37-year-old country singer from Missouri put in a strong showing of honest, consistent performances week after week, and now he actually can quit his day job like he wanted to.

Even his mentor didn’t know what to say following the victory.

“You know what? Congrats to you,” said L.A. Reid.

There was some real holiday indulgence during the finale. Tate got to sing “Please Come Home For Christmas” with four very sparkly, human-sized angels apparently with Breast Cancer Awareness ribbons for wings.

Fifth Harmony disappointed a bit with their Christmas song. Or was it just overshadowed by those costumes?

Carly wasn’t at her best either on “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” I like her better on slower tempo stuff, so maybe her armour began to crack a little last night.

So there we had it. Tate Steven is X Factor 2012 winner. Were you surprised/disappointed it wasn’t Carly? Which of the contestants is destined for a long-lasting career in the music business?

It’s not too surprising that Tate won the $5 million prize since I agree that he’s been the most consistent singer in the competition. And if it comes down to the overall body of work, then he deserved to win. My DISH coworkers think that Carly and Fifth Harmony will have a good shot at making it. I missed last night’s performances, but I’ll go back and watch them today since they were recorded on my DISH Hopper through PrimeTime Anytime. I don’t need to worry about setting timers for programs on the four major networks since my DVR automatically records three hours of programs during primetime on those channels.
