There are just four singers left in the race to become ‘The Voice 2012’ and last night they treated us to an explosion of Christmas cheer (and some overly sentimental songs.) Which of these four sleighed/slayed it for you and which of them should be off Santa’s Good List?
Trevin Hunte of Team Cee Lo was up first with a Bette Midler classic, “Wind Beneath My Wings.” I can’t decide whether I love this song or hate it but I always sing along to it. All the coaches loved Trevin on this one and Adam even tried to take credit for the song choice (he’d spoken to someone, apparently.) I don’t really know what Christina was talking about but she liked it too. Cee Lo added that he finds Trevin’s voice “amazingly beautiful.” It was a strong performance from Trevin and really gave the others something to aim for.
Nicholas David (also Team Cee Lo) sang “You Are So Beautiful” and the song was beautiful, sort of. It had a soporific effect on me, though. Nick often has this effect on me, but like Adam said, he is soulful. Hardly anyone remarked on his singing, which was super annoying.
Team Blake sang “White Christmas” together. Actually, strictly speaking Blake sang it and his team provided background scenery. Don’t you just hate it when Christmas goes on for the whole of December!
Cassadee Pope was amazing on Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy,” earning a “so right on” from Christina. (Apparently Cassadee’s voice is so perfect, it almost sounds auto-tuned. Compliment or not?) Blake gave her high praise indeed: “Nobody else who’s ever been on this show can do what you just did.”
Terry McDermott closed out the night with “Let It Be.” He smashed it. Totally smashed it. “You’re so wonderful,” said Adam while Blake said the performance was “musical perfection.”
Christmas schmaltz aside, last night’s “The Voice” was great entertainment. I haven’t voted yet because I really don’t know who I liked best. How about you?
