The Voice 2012 Season 2 Recap: Battle Rounds Part 2

Last night was round to of the sing for your life duets on The Voice. Would the contestants do as well as the amazing performances from last week when Tony Lucca won for Team Adam, Chris Mann and Jesse Campbell triumphed for Team Christina, RaeLynn and Jordis Unga were victorious for Team Blake and Cheesa won through for Team Cee Lo.

Who would triumph from new best friends Jamar Rogers and Jamie Lono? Jamie admitted on the Today show,

“We became friends during the blind auditions; I call this guy my little brother.”

Jamar said: “My heart just dropped when I found out we had to sing against each other.”

But that comes later. First we found out that the first live performances on The Voice will be on April 2, when they will be up against Dancing With The Stars performances. DWTS 14’s results show will also go head to head with The Voice live elimination round on Tuesday, April 3. Which will you watch?

First things first, though. 12 contestants were about to become 6.

First up last night were Geoff McBride and Sera Hill, singing Chain, Chain Chain by Aretha Franklin. A very nervous Geoff blew Lionel Richie away with his first few notes in rehearsal. He just wanted him to find some swagger. But Jewel said Sera had it all.

They were both fantastic in the duel and I’m glad I didn’t have to pick one of them. The judges found it hard to choose too and were split on their decision but Christina eventually chose Sera as the winner of the battle.

Team Blake was next to field Charlotte Sometimes and Lex Land to sing Pump up Kicks by Foster The People. From the rehearsal it looked like Charlotte would overpower Lex, but Adam chose Lex. He was the only one who did, though, so Charlotte won that battle and headed in to the live shows.

Cee Lo had Juliet Simms and Sarah Golden battle it out on Stay With Me by Rod Stewart.  Babyface wanted Sarah to keep the country in her voice and be unique and so did I.  Juliet got to work with Ne-Yo, who told her she has an incredible voice but she has to pick her spots to belt it out.

In a weird twist where most of the coaches seemed to favour Sarah, Cee Lo chose to keep Juliet. Fair enough; she was great.

The Team Adam battle was between Whitney Myer and Kim Yarbough singing No More Drama by Mary J Blige.  Adam urged the ladies to stay connected to the song about strong women. Whitney seemed a little intimidated by Kim’s experience and it paid off in the end as we waved goodbye to Whitney. They wereboth amazing, though, so I was sad someone had to leave.

Lindsey Pavo and Lee Koch were next to sing for team Christina, on Heart Shape Box by Nirvana. Lee felt at a disadvantage as he didn’t know the song as Lindsey did. Lindsey’s challenge would be to make us feel what she was feeling through the song.

In the end, neither singer particularly stood out so I don’t know what Adam was talking about when he said the performance was creepy and good. I was with Blake, feeling a little stupid we don’t know the song. Only Lee seemed to draw particular praise as Christina thought he put his stamp on the song. But it was Lindsey ticked her boxes and was chosen to go through to the next round.

Cee Lo chose Jamar Rogers to battle against Jamie Lono on I Wanna Know What Love Is by Foreigner.  I worried for Jamar because when he worked with Babyface his voice was fragile and keeps cracking.  Babyface urged him to be more confident. Ne-Yo wanted Jamar to give the song emotion. So did he manage it?

Adam felt like Jamie was in his zone but he lost it a bit.  He felt Jamar owned it and was ridiculously good.  Blake loved Jamie’s vibe.  Christina felt he had a wonderful tone but he lost it.  Christina loved Jamar and he would be her pick.  Cee Lo had a difficult decision but he felt Jamie was so nervous and he felt Jamar was powerful and displayed confidence.  Yes, Jamar triumphed and went into the live show rounds.

So that was it for the second battle round on The Voice 2012 season 2. Did you agree with the coaches’ decisions?
