The Fab Four of Adam, Blake, Cee Lo and Christina returned last night in the latest search to find The Voice of America. The 2012 season of The Voice returned with blind auditions and increasingly good chemistry between the judges.
The idea, for those of you who weren’t converted to the singing competition last year, is that the judges have their backs to the auditionees. If they like them, the judges turn around. That person then chooses which star coach he or she wants from those who turned around.
Jesse Campbell had all four judges turning around with his surprising, tragic back story and his beautiful rendition of A Song For You. Cee Lo bordered on being racist to Christina before Jesse opted to join Team Christina.
Christina also added Chris Mann, an opera singer who sang Italian to her team.
But that is jumping ahead to the highlights.
RaeLynn was the first audition of the night, and clearly wanted to be on Team Blake. She sang Miranda Lambert’s Hell on Heels, which made Adam and Blake both turned around but she obviously chose Blake.
The surprise choice of the night fopr me was made by a contestant, not a coach. Why did gritty, raspy-voiced rock chic Juliet Simms choose Cee Lo over the more obvious choice of Adam?
Who knows! But Adam got Tony Lucca, who had been a Mousketeer with Christina years ago. She didn’t remember him, but at least she turned around. In fact, everyone did, but Tony picked Team Adam.
Daniel Rosa, Gonul Aksoy, Ben Baxter, and Mark Trussell failed to impress the judges but all hope is not yet lost. If the coaches don’t fill out their teams by the end of the auditions, the best of the rest may get another shot.
What did you think of The Voice Season 2 premiere? Are you glad it’s back? Who was your favorite singer from Sunday night?
Tune into the second blind auditions installment of The Voice today, February 6 at its regular time, 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
