Team Adam was up first with Pip and Nathan Parrett singing You Know I’m No Good by Amy Winehouse.
In rehearsal we saw that poor Nathan was so nervous he developed a tic. All through the battle I was confident for Nathan as I thought he was winning, hands down. Blake thought it was good; he loved Nathan’s big voice but he thought Pip could do everything. Christina thought Pip had more stage performance, but Nathan’s voice commands more attention. Cee Lo said that Nathan had an effortless cool and Pip also did a good job, but Nathan stole it. But despite these comments and being surprised by Nathan, Blake chose Pip the winner of this battle. No, I don’t understand it, either.
Cee Lo chose Erin Martin and The Shields Brothers to battle against each other on What’s Love Got To Do With It by Tina Turner. In rehearsal, Baby Face found The Shields Brothers’ harmonies were off and they sounded a little likeWayne’s World. Thankfully they sorted that out. Rehearsals also went badle forErin. Ne-Yo didn’t feel it from her and her confidence was completely shaken when he said he didn’t think she was sexy.
I thought that was a mean thing to say, but then she murdered the song. Her attitude was all wrong, proving no one doesn’t Tina like Tina. Adam said it was so weird and he was a little uncomfortable with her attitude, but he also felt The Shields Brothers were in their garage. Blake said he’d pick her but it seemed to be only for her tacky outfit. Christina loved it, callingErina hot mama, although she thought the brothers’ harmonies kicked it out of the park, so they clearly sorted that out. It didn’t matter, though: Cee Lo pickedErin, presumably because he liked how she looked in that sleazy outfit.
Up next was Team Christina with a battle between Ashley De La Rose and Jonathas on No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown. I loved it in rehearsal when Christina told Jonathas to stop mouthing the words while Ashley sings. But in the battle, they both came off as being sexy and strong. Cee Lo thought it was very good and said he would pick Ashley. Adam thought there was good chemistry between the two; he would pick Ashley. Blake thought Jonathas had won hands down until Ashley really brought it through, he would pick Ashley. Christina actually listened to hat the others said: although she thought Jonathas could really sell records, Ashley was the winner of this battle.
Team Blake’s was next up, pairing Alyx and Jermaine Paul on Get Out Of My Dream And Into My Car by BillyOcean. Both were very good in rehearsal, despite Alyx being very young and needing more experience to come out of her shell. Jermaine pulled out all the stops, getting the audience clapping but Alyx did well too. Ut not well enough for anyone to pick her, unfortunately.
Team Adam went next with a battle between Angel Taylor and Katrina Parker on Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis. Angel’s harmonies were good but she needed to find more passion. Katrina just needed more confidence.
In the battle, Katrina seemed to be more vocal and more emotional; she also seemed to engage the crowd more. Blake thought Katrina flat out won this battle. Christina felt this song was not good for Angel although Katrina was unreal. Cee Lo felt Angel had no confidence but Katrina was consistent! Adam wanted to run out but although he liked Angel’s uniqueness, he chose Katrina as the winner of this battle.
Team Blame was next to battle, with Gwen Sebastian and Erin Willett singing We Belong by Pat Benatar, although the friends tried to make it look more like a show than a battle.
Then there was a horrible shock:Erinmet up with Blake to say she got a phone call from her mom; the nurses say her dad only has only 24 hours. But she still wants to stay on the show; her father wanted her to be there and she needed to do it.
Now tell me you didn’t want Erin to win her battle after that! Luckily, she was amazing and gave me goosebumps. All but Cee Lo picked Erin to win so she went through to the live shows. She did it for her Dad.
What an emotional way to end the last of the Battle Rounds. Are you excited for The Voice 2012 live shows? Who are you rooting for?
