As “The Hunger Games” grows closer, the three main stars are visiting ABC’s “Good Morning America” this week. On Tuesday Liam Hemsworth, who plays Gale Hawthorne in the film, interviewed with the news show. He said the first time he watched “The Hunger Games,” he had to view it alone. Liam said his reasoning was there’s been so many expectations for the movie that he wanted to see it by himself. Luckily the flick lived up to the hype in his opinion and he’s excited for everyone to see it.
“Now that I’ve see it, I feel great. It’s honestly one of the most powerful films I’ve seen,” Liam said.
Liam Hemsworth delved a little bit into his experience while filming “The Hunger Games.” His role of Gale is a close friend of Katniss Everdeen, who volunteers to compete in the annual Hunger Games in place of her much younger sister. Gale is from District 12 like Katniss and agrees to help look after her mother and sister while she’s in the competition. He doesn’t get much screen time in the first installment, but Katniss has feelings for him.
Hemsworth said he loved working with Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson (plays Peeta Mellark). Liam had to lose quite a bit of weight for his role. Prior them filming Hutcherson took him to White Castle, a restaurant with amazing food.
Liam said, “I didn’t even know White Castle existed and then we went to Kentucky where he’s from and we had White Castle and thought it was a good idea to play basketball right after White Castle. We threw up a little bit together. It was a real bonding moment.”
He soon realized he had to put the fork down and lose weight for the film. His brother texted him and wrote, “It’s called Hunger Games, not Eating Games.” Sounds like Liam was told by everyone he had to get in great shape for his part of Gale. Fans will be able to see for themselves when the movie hits theaters this Friday!
