Does anyone else think ‘The Bachelorette’ and ‘The Bachelor’ is starting to look like an old boys (or girls) club? It seems that even when the franchise isn’t openly recycling previous contestants, it includes people who they already know or have at least met. Never has that been more obvious than in Emily Maynard’s season of ‘The Bachelorette.’
Kalon McMahon says he is the male embodiment of his ‘Bachelor Pad 2’ friend Erica Rose. Take a look at our spoiler here for more news on that particular season baddie. Sean Lowe is friendly with Jeremy Anderson who was on ‘The Bachelorette’ season 4. Jef Holm knows Michelle Money from ‘The Bachelor 15’ and her brother is his friend.
And we can’t forget that Arie Luyendyck, Jr. has been a whole lot more than friendly with one of the show’s producers.
Now we learn that Charlie Grogan, who suffered traumatic brain injuries after falling from his friend’s deck in 2010, already met Emily Maynard way back before ‘The Bachelorette’ premiere.
Their past meeting didn’t count for much as he was just eliminated in Bermuda. But Emily remembered him. We just didn’t get to see that part on the show.
But in his exit interview, Charlie revealed,
‘I met her years and years and years ago here in Nashville with mutual friends. We have mutual friends that live here, and I’d have to say that she acted a lot different than she did while I was on the show. She has to have this persona that she has to keep.’
So our all-natural girl isn’t being so natural on the show? Well, that would be pretty hard, I guess. This time, though, Charlie didn’t feel a spark between them.
“Sometimes I felt the conversations weren’t really flowing. I mean, they were flowing on my end, but on hers, it was kind of just like I was just like talking to the wall.”
Oh nice, Charlie. I bet Emily is thrilled to learn that talking to her was like talking to the wall.
He didn’t get to show his intimate or deep side, he complained, although the other guys don’t seem to be struggling with that. And Charlie knew Emily remembered him. Kind of…
‘She had said the moment I stepped out of the limo — she looked at me and was like, “Damn, I think I know this guy!” And that was really kind of a cute conversation we had together, because she didn’t know how she remembers me, but she had seen me before and this and that. And I was like, “Yeah, you know, we knew each other through mutual friends at a birthday party and we had a good time.” She knew my face. She remembered me, but she didn’t really know how it went.’
So we didn’t get to see these cute conversations which is perhaps a shame. But if we had, would there be cries of ‘fix’ and ‘setup’ as viewers learned Emily’s links to some of these guys? Maybe the franchise can’t afford that.
Do you care that the ‘Bachelorette’ hopefuls aren’t necessarily some randoms?
