Funeral director Shawntel had previously appeared on Brad Womack’s season of The Bachelor but she made an unexpected arrival at current Bachelor Ben Flajnik’s cocktail party on Monday night.
Before arriving in San Francisco Shawntel said of Ben,
“He’s everything I want in a guy. This is my only chance with Ben because he’s going to be engaged in a couple of months. If I didn’t do this I’d always think in my mind, ‘What if?’”
She said she had talked with Ben before he became The Bachelor and wanted to get to know him better. She told him to give her a rose if he wanted her to stick around, and if he didn’t then she would leave.
But things didn’t go so well for Shawntel. The other women were less than impressed by her arrival, quizzing her on why she thought she had a connection with Flajnik and why she thought she had a chance.
Flajnik, having said he could see himself with Shawntel, failed to give her a rose so she made a swift exit from the show.
But Bachelor host Harrison said he knew the other women would not be happy but had not predicted the “nuclear meltdown” that occurred.
He called Newton’s arrival was a “pivotal” moment in the season that “changed” everything from that point onwards. From the way the other ladies freaked out at her coming in to the show, it made Ben realize just how much they wanted to be with him and win the show. So he felt he had to show he was sincere too.
A confused Shawntel left the rose ceremony adamant that there was a connection there with Ben and her.
“I think he just wasn’t being man enough to accept that,” she said.
Erika Uhlig, who fainted during the rose ceremony, and Jaclyn Swartz and were also sent home. Brittney Schreiner had earlier chosen to leave voluntarily after realizing the Bachelor experience was not for her.
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
