There are only 11 girls left on The Bachelor and this week, and with Ben Flajnik they all headed down to Vieques Island, Puerto Rico.
Ben feels it’s only at this stage of the competition when real relationships start to happen, so the pressure was on for the girls. Emily was still stressing over her run-in with Courtney last week, especially as Courtney promises to “embarrass her so bad” if she tries throwing her under the bus again.
There was much excitement as Chris told all the girls they would get a chance to go on a date with Ben this week. The first one-on-one went to Nicki, who was happy to finally get some alone time with Ben. His Spanish note to her is translated by Emily to mean, “Nicki, let’s find new love in old San Juan,” so that looked promising.
Ben told her she is a “total sweetheart” and brings out the kid in him. They got to view the island by helicopter, and Ben says that the day should be a “good indicator”of where their relationship is going. Well the date got wet but they heated things up by sharing a kiss before running back together through the rain.
Ben said he loves Nicki’s flexibility to go with the flow and finds it to be a turn-on.
It was cute how they chose dry clothes for each other and once in their new threads, they head back out into the street, where the rain had finally stopped, and take a walk hand-in-hand by the seaside. They sat together on a bench in front of a church where a wedding is taking place and the pair discuss their past relationships and their hopes for the future.
Later that night, Ben and Nicki went for a quiet dinner where he asked her about her failed marriage. She admitted that she loved being in love and that the relationship was not all bad, but that in the end, it was not working at all. Ben appreciated her honesty and openness in saying that the past has made her wary of new relationships. He gave her the rose so that they can continue to get to know one another.
The group date was at Roberto Clemente Stadium for a game of baseball, which he grew up playing and which is a large part of Puerto Rican culture. They were joined by three coaches of the local Gigantes team, who lead them through some drills before the game gets started.
But to be honest they looked more enthusiastic about the romantic beach party to be held with Ben that evening, but to which only some of the women would be invited. So that was the incentive to be on the winning team for the baseball game Ben set up, splitting the girls into two teams.
Oh but get this, to even up the numbers, Ben had to choose a girl to play on both teams. He chose Lindzi, guaranteeing her a place at the beach party.
The red team won so Courtney, Kacie B, Kasey S, Jamie and Lindzi joined Ben at the beach. He seems to take Kacey aside a lot, as he loves being with her, he told her. Of course she got a rose! And of course this annoyed Courtney.
Courtney, desperate for alone time with Ben, asked to “steal” him and asked him to go skinny dipping with her. But she had to wait for his answer
Next was Ben’s date with Elyse, on a yacht.
Ben picks Elyse up and they head out on a yacht. Ben revealed that he wanted to give Elyse a full date to determine their compatibility. They jumped off the side of the boat into the water and later shared a romantic kiss. But at dinner, Elyse’s admission that she is “sick of being single” has Ben worried that just any guy will do to relieve her boredom.
Elyse didn’t get a rose, so she left the competition, which pleased Courtney but shocked the others. She jumped at the chance to make good on their plans to skinny dip, even waiting for Ben outside with a bottle of wine.
She got her way and they headed down to the beach hand-in-hand, stripped off and ran into the water and made out. But it just left Ben feeling “crappy.”
At the cocktail party Jennifer thanked Ben for a “so perfect” date and they shared a kiss. Courtney was just busy taunting the girls about her skinny dipping with Ben.
Emily and Ben also talk on the beach, but everyone kept their clothes on. Unfortunately, she makes a big mistake: right after saying she is going to forget about Courtney and concentrate on Ben, she started in about Courtney again, calling her a “weirdo.”
Ben advised her to “drop it, tread lightly and be careful” which she agrees with, but she realized she had made another mistake. But it isn’t bad enough to send her home. Emily got the final rose at the ceremony, sending Jennifer home.
She held it together until she got in the car, wishing Ben well and saying she hoped he’d find happiness. But in the car she had a meltdown.
“I want to be loved and I want to love someone back. I just don’t get it.”
