The new season 16 Bachelor, Ben Flajnik, a winemaker from Sonoma, California, has been unlucky in love, so far. He had his proposal to Ashley Hebert rejected on last season’s The Bachelorette. Now he is back for more punishment… I mean, another chance at love. And he already has two women fighting over him!
Last night, The Bachelor had a two-hour season premiere on ABC. And already there was a fight between two of the contestants and things got nasty.
The problem was between two of the ladies, blogger Jenna and dental consultant Monica.
Jenna got upset that Monica hadn’t fallen for Ben because she barely knew him. After Jenna suggested Monica wasn’t there for the right reasons, and that should go home, Monica slated Jenna to her fellow contestants. Monica duly issued a warning, saying,
“I’m so, like, aggressive. If [Jenna] makes it past tonight, problem. If she comes at me later, I will cut [her] f—ing face off!”
Jenna locked herself in a bathroom, crying and saying how everyone on The Bachelor was awful.
Despite the drama, it was Jenna who seemed to be judged worst in this little exchange. Even host Chris Harrison got in on that, saying in his Entertainment Weekly blog,
“Ben was somewhat aware of the drama and although he was unsure of Jenna, in the end he decided he would chalk up her emotion to first night jitters and give her another chance.”
“I would love to tell you this story has a happy ending and Jenna redeems herself with a strong showing next week but … that’s just not what happens. Wait until you see next week.”
But isn’t it Monica who needs (but maybe doesn’t deserve) a second chance, after issuing threats like that? What do you think to the way the situation was handled on The Bachelor 16 premiere? And what do you think Chris is hinting at that we shall see in next week’s episode?
The Bachelor returns on ABC Monday at 8/7c.
