Taylor Swift ACM Teen Date Hospitalized With Cancer

Kevin McGuire missed his date with Taylor Swift for the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards because he is hospital, fighting for his life.

Taylor Swift was asked to Kevin’s high school prom, his one wish to be accompanied by her. But instead she asked the 18-year-old to go as her date to the ACM awards.

“Kevin, I’m so sorry but I won’t be able to make it to your prom,” Taylor wrote on Facebook February 24. “But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor.”

Kevin, a varsity football player at Sterling High School in Somerdale, N.J., was delighted and of course accepted.

“I have cancer. Cancer doesn’t have me.” he responded. “Taylor, I would love to go with you.”

But sadly, a sharp downturn in Kevin’s health meant he was unable to attend the ceremony.

The campaign “Taylor Swift TAKE KEVIN MCGUIRE TO PROM” was started by Kevin’s sister, Victoria, after his cancer returned. He had fought it for years and thought he was clear the disease in 2010. Tragically, a relapse left him fighting leukemia again.

That’s when his sister launched a Facebook campaign to have Taylor Swift be his date for his high school prom.  Unable to make that time, Swift was so cute to offer this alternative date. So it’s awful that Kevin’s worsening condition hospitalized him and meant he missed out a second time.

His sister revealed his inability to join Taylor through Facebook.

“I am so sorry to announce this devastating news, but Kevin was admitted to the hospital last night, and is unable to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards with Taylor Swift,” she wrote.

But Taylor has talked to him.

“He’s not well enough to join me at the ACMs. Please keep him in your thoughts. I’ll make it up to you, Kevin!” she Tweeted.

I’m sure we all join Taylor in wishing Kevin McGuire a good recovery.
