In talking with the TV doctor, Taylor admitted that she feels like a “scared little girl” because of the abuse she suffered and everything that has happened since Russell Armstrong’s suicide back in August last year.
Tayloris appearing on the show as part of the promotion campaign for her memoir, written after Russell hanged himself last summer. She told Dr. Drew she has been abused her whole life and is struggling emotionally these days because of it. She said she feels like crying most of the time.
In response to that, Dr. Drew toldTaylor, “I see a scared little girl: would that describe it?”
Taylor agreed but said she will not give in to a fear but pushed further by Dr. Drew, Taylor put a name to the frightened little girl inside her. Perhaps unimaginatively (well, he didn’t give her long to make up a name) Taylor said she is called Shana.
Shana is Taylor Armstrong’s birth name.
Call it cruel of me but I had to stifle a chuckle as Taylor(or is it Shana?) admitted “It’s not really helping,” when the TV doctor urged her to bring the two parts of herself together, the Shana and the Taylor, to stop compartmentalizing herself.
Dr. Drew, urging to show her vulnerable side to her fellow Real Housewives, some of whom had also been abused, seemed to liken appearing on reality TV to a position of being abused.
“People get resentful when you don’t give them access to your real person. You have a pattern of putting yourself in abusive situations and this is no different – this is another one. Taylor’s memoir, Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss, and Finding the Courage Within, is in stores now. How much of Taylor Armstrong’s “real person” will we get to see in it, do you think?
Taylor Armstrong’s interview with Dr. Drew airs tonight) Thursday at 9/8c on HLN.
