According to reports, her version of the British band Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the Water’ was pretty good and earned the Hollywood actress a standing ovation from the 15,000 strong audience. However, the 45 year old was particularly self effacing. Having earlier vowed to bring the house down, she declared, “I can’t play for crap!” The audience disagreed and her performance was met with warm applause.

The event was hosted by husband and wife team, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. The real celeb followers of you out there will recall that McGraw played Bullock’s on-screen husband in The Blind Side.

Other benefit performers more used to entertaining us with music included Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and ZZ Top. Reese Witherspoon was a disappointing absentee but she recorded her own video greeting and good wishes to the Nashville audience.

The concert in Nashville raised over $2 million for the fun set up to aid the Texas flood victims. Let’s hope it all gets well spent and then the celebrities’ kindness in donating their time and energy will make a big difference.

Taylor Swift was the talk of the prestigious event after taking home a whopping 5 awards including the coveted title of Favorite Artist. The 19-year-old talent beat out the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, for the big award of the night. Accepting her awards via satellite from Wembley Stadium in London, the blonde beauty thanked her fans and her family.

Taylor was the big winner of the night when it came to the actual awards but her friend Carrie Underwood dominated when it comes to the best performance of the night. We realize that we’re putting Carrie above JLo (who fell onstage), Whitney Houston and the controversial performance by Adam Lambert (which we think was a desperate plea for attention) but we honestly didn’t like any of the performances. The only woman who rivalled Carrie’s performance was Miss Rihanna but even her performance was a little weird for us.

Whatever happened to singing on stage and looking pretty? Too many artists (like Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert) are trying too hard to stand out. Their performances reek of desperation. Sometimes, if you have real talent, you don’t have to try so hard to get noticed. We’re just sayin…

Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood both had memorable performances last night. Taylor kicked off the show with a great rendition of her song “Forever and Always” while Carrie gave audiences a burlesque-inspired performance of her new hit “Cowboy Casanova.”

Later on, Taylor returned to the stage to perform her single “Fifteen” which left the crowd in awe of her amazing vocal abilities and vulnerable personality.

Carrie Underwood went on to host the entire show with Brad Paisley where she changed into several beautiful outfits while her friend Taylor Swift went on to win 4 (count ‘em 4) awards including the prestigious award of Entertainer of the Year.

While accepting one of her awards, Taylor thanked every person in the room for not running up onto the stage and ruining her moment (everyone remembers the Kanye West incident at the VMAs, right)?

By the end of the night everyone was talking about Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. It’s nice to see young women succeeding in country music!
