Have you ever considered Rambo a fashion icon? No, me either. What about Rocky? No, I don’t remember him for his great fashion sense, either. But now the actor, Sylvester Stallone, who was made famous by these two scantily clad action heroes, is launching his own men’s fashion brand which he says was inspired by the characters.
Stallone (64) is about to launch his brand of jeans, shirts, jackets, sports clothing, underwear and even watches, scheduled to hit the stores in 2012. The “Rambo” clothing range is a capsule of the company, “Sly, Inc.”, which has been set up specifically to distribute the clothes and fashion accessories. It is said to have something for all men, from the rebel to the gentleman.
This new business venture for Stallone follows recent interviews where he admitted that he felt too old for acting and instead wanted to concentrate more on directing – and fashion, it seems. He appears to have been inspired by losing weight for the 2008 reprise of the “Rambo” franchise. Stallone first played John Rambo in 1982 aged 36.
“I think I’m past my prime for doing dramatic films; it’s almost like a pathetic cry out to be recognized as a serious actor,” he said. (A big ouchy from the many actors trying to make movies beyond their not-so-old early sixties!)
“I’m very proud of the drama in Rocky Balboa and Copland but I would much rather just direct dramas than act in them,” Stallone said. Perhaps he saw branching out into fashion as a more natural step than we maybe would, because he said, “Clothing is the first step to building a character.”
So, if this fashion line includes the kind of clothes that built Rocky and Rambo, are you excited at the prospect of “Rambo” clothes hitting the stores?
