Survivor Recap: Ralph and Grant Eliminated

The end is in sight now. This season’s finale of “Survivor: Redemption Island” hits our screens this Sunday, May 15 on CBS. Last night, the remaining five contestants returned to the Murlonio campsite.

Ashley gloated over Andrea’s departure, leaving her and Natalie as the last girls standing. The women agreed to stick together, but Natalie later revealed that she is “leaning towards” sticking with her original alliance Rob. She felt that would get her further in the game. She then told Rob about Ashley’s request to pair up, prompting Rob to vow to get her out at the next Tribal Council as he has come too far to throw the competition away.

Over at Redemption Island, everyone was surprised when Andrea arrived. She immediately approached Matt, with whom she had a close bond earlier in the game, to discuss the tension between them which surfaced when she betrayed him to Rob to have him voted out, but they don’t call a truce. Ralph then gave Andrea an uncomfortable sleeping place as “payback” for what everyone else has gone through while there.

At the task, Andrea was upset that all of her former Ometepe tribe mates lied to her and sent her out. Jeff reminded her that the task gave her a chance to get back in the game. The task called for the contestants to move a handle through a long table maze. At the end of the maze, they had to use the handle to smash a tile and reveal a bag of puzzle pieces. Ralph completed the maze first but the puzzle frustrated him, he came in last and found himself out of the game.

The next day, food shortages bit as the contestants realized that if they were to eat their rationed rice three times per day, they would only have enough to last until day 36. Everyone wanted to eat as normal, but Ashley doesn’t want it. It’s all the excuse that Rob needed to suggest voting her out.

Phillip was so funny, suggesting Natalie and Ashley give up their rice because the men need more calories in order to keep up their strength for their upcoming challenges. As you may imagine, the girls weren’t happy. Rob vowed allegiance with Grant for one of the men to try and win immunity to get Ashley out for good.

In the next immunity challenge, contestants had to use large fish hooks to retrieve puzzle pieces which had to be arranged into fish skeletons. The hilarious complication was that they had to complete the task with one arm tied behind their backs. The prize was not only immunity, but also a three-course meal delivered to them at camp.

Ashley won! Rob’s plan was wrecked! And as predicted, Ashley chose Natalie to share her reward.

Plan B – Rob said that it “breaks his heart” to have to vote out Grant but that he isn’t there to make friends. He told Ashley, Phillip and Natalie about the plan to vote Grant out, but then asked Grant which way he would like to vote so he doesn’t suspect the plot. Poor Grant believed him.

At Tribal Council, Grant is eliminated with three votes. “I didn’t think I was going to be voted out. I trusted the other people in my alliance and it turned out that somebody wasn’t being honest, but that’s how it goes,” he said following his exit. You got that right, Grant! But he couldn’t work out who betrayed him.
