Survivor 2011: Redemption Island Episode 1 Results

“Survivor” returned to our screens last night. 16 castaways were split in to two tribes and then Rob and Russell appeared. After drawing lots, Rob went to Ometepe to be greeted with cheers while Russell went to Zapatera to the hollow sound of a couple of claps.

That’s when contestants heard about Redemption Island, where they go after eviction, and from which they may return at some unspecified point. That did nothing to calm contestants’ fears. Russell tried to make his tribe feel better, though, promising he was there to be good, not cause trouble. They seemed unconvinced, but the team gelled well and erected their shelter pretty quickly. That’s good as it looks like this will be a wet season.

The Ometepe tribe congratulated themselves on having Rob on their team, sure their rivals would fall apart having to deal with him. Ometepe’s biggest problem looks set to be the conceited idiot, Philip.

Kristina made her mark, finding the Immunity Idol and then quickly hiding it somewhere else – the sneaky girl! It’s only a matter of time before we hear more about that Immunity Idol, I’m sure!

The initial immunity challenge was great. Tribes were required to push large blocks along a runway to form steps, then they had to release a ladder, and lastly, put together a pyramid with patterns on it. Zapatera raced off way ahead, getting to the last stage before Ometepe even got off the starting blocks. They just couldn’t close the gap so we say farewell to an Ometepe tribe member.

Things really kicked off in the inaugural Tribal Council as Phillip exposes Kristina and Fran’s plan to kick out Boston Rob then yells out that Kristina has the Immunity Idol! Rob offered Kristina immunity if she let him have the Idol, but she turned him down. Will she regret that?

There were tense moments for her as the votes were tied between Kristina, Phillip and Francesca, but eventually it was Francesca who is eliminated. She leaves for Redemption Island to wait her first challenger, warning everyone not to trust Rob, but is it really Kristina that is the Ms. Nasty of the series so far?
