Spanking? Only After Vodka Says Keira Knightley About New Movie A Dangerous Method

Keira Knightley last night attended the British premiere of her new movie, A Dangerous Method. And it seems that only the Brits wanted to talk about the sadomasochistic scenes.

Keira plays the central character David Cronenberg’s new movie, Sabina Spielrein, who is a psychiatric patient of Carl Jung’s who becomes his lover. Spielrein recovered from her illness to become a leading therapist and intellectual colleague of Jung and Sigmund Freud.

Keira Knightley attended the premiere of new film with co-stars Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen.

In the movie she appears topless, tied to a bed while Fassbender, who plays Jung, spanks her behind.

The actress admitted she thought about turning down the role because of the two explicit sadomasochistic scenes. She was worried that audiences would focus on that… but only the Brits have!

“’In England it’s got mentioned all the time. I don’t know what that says about us! We obviously like spanking, I don’t know.”

She says she was helped through the filming by drinking shots of vodka to ease her inhibitions. Of Fassbender and herself she admitted,

“We were both very nervous about those scenes because they’re not nice, and when we shot them I said to Michael, ‘If you touch me I’m going to kill you.’ He said, ‘Keira, you’re tied to the bed at the moment. I don’t think you’re in any position to say that.’” She laughs at the recollection. “I said, ‘Yeah, you’re right.’ He’s absolutely wonderful and we had a couple of shots of vodka before doing the scene and a couple of glasses of champagne afterwards.”

Fassbender insisted it was easy to work on the scenes with Knightley, because “she’s professional, she’s very smart, sensitive and has got a sense of humor. So you’re already three quarters of the way up the hill, and then you just have to trust one another.”

The movie charts the friendship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung, and Jung’s relationship with Spielrein.

All three actors said the film had been great fun to make and they had all become great friends. But Lord of the Rings star Mortensen admitted taking on the role of Freud had been daunting.

“Every job I say yes to I end up getting scared, but never more so than when playing Sigmund Freud,” he admitted.

A Dangerous Method opened in the US last November. What do you think to the movie? Have you seen it?
