Shania Twain Discusses Divorce with Oprah

Country singer Shania Twain has appeared on “Oprah” to speak of the devastation she felt at her divorce. She said she was so depressed at the realization that her ex-husband was having an affair that she didn’t want to live anymore.

However, she has now turned her life around and in a strange twist of fate she has now married the ex-husband of the woman who broke up her marriage!

The “Man! I Feel Like A Woman!” singer told Oprah Winfrey about the devastating time in 2008 when she discovered that her husband of 14 years, Robert “Mutt” Lange, was having an affair with Shania’s then best friend, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. For many women, that would be considered the ultimate betrayal. However, Twain (45) said it eventually left her stronger.

“I needed the wake-up,” she said.

Shania Twain said the seedy affair left her feeling in a dark place. She begged her husband to stop torturing her and look for love elsewhere but not with her best friend.

“This is killing me,” she reportedly told him.

Oprah then gently questioned Shania and asked if that meant she had felt suicidal. The singer candidly admitted, “I didn’t want to kill myself but I just didn’t want to live, I lost my will to live.”

Like many married couples, she felt that her life was so mixed up with that of her husband’s that she couldn’t find a way forward.

However, there is a happy ending. In what was her first interview in five years, Twain discussed how she later fell in love with the Frédéric Thiebaud, the then-estranged husband of her own ex-husband’s lover. Shania and Frédéric were married in Puerto Rico in January of this year.

Things are looking good for Shania Twain. Her memoirs, entitled “From This Moment On, are now out. Also, she is starring in a new docu-series, “Why Not?” on the OWN network, which premieres on Sunday, May 8 at 9 pm EST/10 CT.
