Russell Brand and Katy Perry Divorce: I Don’t Want Your Money

Russell Brand could have received approximately $20 million from Katy Perry in their divorce settlement but he says he doesn’t want a cent of it.

The couple married without a prenuptial agreement which means that underCaliforniadivorce law, all their assets should be split equally. But apparently Russell won’t be asserting that right.

Russell’s lawyer filed final divorce papers yesterday, but the judge will make the divorce official on June 30, because there’s a 6 month cooling off period.

Without a prenup, the legal situation is that everything the couple earned during their 14-month marriage is community property and they would usually split this 50/50.

Forbes states that Katy made $44 million between May, 2010 and May, 2011, which is considerably more than Russell Brand.  Russell and Katy wed in October, 2010, so Russell would have received a considerable fortune according to community property rights.

But here we have that rare thing among celebrities: an amicable divorce. And it seems that Russell is a pretty decent guy. He does not want to take Katy Perry’s money and is apparently more than happy to walk away with what he earned himself during the marriage.
