Ricki Lake Happy To Be DWTS 13 Runner-up To JR Martinez

Ricki Lake has consistently reached the top of the Dancing With The Stars 13 leader board and she must now be favorite to win the glitter ball trophy. However, the former chat show queen says she’d be happy to see J.R. Martinez beat her to first place.

Ricki Lake and her professional dance partner Derek Hough have stayed at the top of the leader board week after week. She knows everyone has worked hard on DWTS 13, but she thinks her biggest rival is actor and war veteran J.R. Martinez.

“All I can say is it’s going to be very hard to beat the war hero who can dance,” Lake said, hinting at the fact that Dancing With the Stars is as much a popularity contest as a dancing competition.

But there are no sour grapes from Ricki Lake. She says Martinez has “a smile that lights up the whole ballroom. He’s amazing. I’d be happy to take second to him” even though she is still hoping she and Hough will win.

“I really want it to be about who gives the best performance so I’m bringing as much of my ‘A’ game as I can and it’s not easy. I am not a natural dancer. JR has natural ability. It’s definitely a work in progress.”

She sounds like head judge Len Goodman, who is always urging the voting public to consider the dancing! Ricki has certainly been putting the work in, and has lost a considerable amount of weight. She recently said, though, that she does not expect to be as thin as former Dancing with the Stars contestants Jennifer Grey and Chynna Phillips. Partner Derek Hough also danced through a shoulder injury in training earlier in DWTS 13.

So they have the determination and the ability to beat J.R. Martinez. Do they have whatever else it takes?
