The wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton has taken place and I have watched it all live on TV. I mean all. Never before have we had such intimate access to a Royal Wedding. The cameras were right there to catch every glimpse and smile and loving moment shared.
The spirits of embracing the public who wish to share in the joyous occasion and the couple have continued to give themselves unselfishly to the public throughout the day. On Thursday, we saw Catherine Middleton arrive with her family at The Goring Hotel where they spent the night. Instead of rushing inside like she could have done, she stopped and greeted the crowds with smiles and waves, letting them take their photos for a few minutes.
Princes William and Harry went further than that, late last night. They actually went out on to the street outside Clarence House to talk with waiting crowds.
“I hope I’m not too nervous tomorrow,” aid William, before thanking the crowd. He even told them, “Make sure you wave at Charles and Camilla,” referring to his father and stepmother.
Harry, his best man, joked, “I’m sleeping out here tonight. The atmosphere is fantastic. That’s why we came out. In there we can hear it.”
An estimated TV audience of two billion got a real insight into the Royal Wedding to see William and Catherine “love, comfort, honor and keep” each other and they will have been able to see all the really special moments of the few quiet words they shared and the loving looks and little giggles that passed between them. The cameras were also there to catch unexpected kisses between the Queen and prince Charles and between the Duke of Edinburgh and Charles’ wife, Camilla. The Queen and Prince Charles may be mother and son but public kisses are a rare manifestation of their affection.
The love that Prince William and his princess Catherine have for one another was obvious. Also obvious was the playfulness and fun in their relationship and in William’s relationship with his brother, mixed with a real understanding and appreciation of his duty as heir to the throne. The dignified and confident Catherine looked more than prepared to take that on.
It was thoroughly modern wedding and the British monarchy looks pretty safe in Prince William and Princess Catherine’s hands.
The British Royal Family didn’t want you to miss a part of the special wedding ceremony and we don’t either!
