Piers Morgan yesterday announced that he is leaving his role as a judge on America’s Got Talent. His decision was sparked by a wish to devote more time to is own CNN show during election year.
The British broadcaster had judged the NBC reality talent show alongside Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel since the show began six years ago. Now he intends to devote more time to his own show, Piers Morgan Tonight.
In fact, he chose this own CNN talk show last night as the vehicle from which to announce he was stepping down as an AGT judge.
He sad that he had “loved every single second” of his work n America’s Got Talent but that he had fond it increasingly difficult to juggle all his work commitments. As he pointed out, as next year is an election year, his CNN work is sure to keep him busy.
Piers Morgan thanked X Factor judge Simon Cowell for giving him the “wonderful opportunity” of being a judge on America’s Got Talent. He jokingly said his fellow judges and host Nick Cannon will be relieved not to have to cope with him next season.
The former newspaper editor has hosted Piers Morgan Tonight in January 2011, stepping into the timeslot vacated by Larry King. He had resigned from Britain’s Got Talent the year before in order to move to CNN.
