Now there’s a name that takes me back; I thought Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee) had hung up his red bow tie following his little “incident” at the adult movie theater in Sarasota, Florida.
To be honest, I thought that whole thing was blown way out of proportion (no pun intended), but it is amazing to hear that Paul has resurrected his old “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” TV show and turned it into a stage show!
After a very good run in Los Angeles, the show is now moving to the Great White Way; it is now slated to open at the Stephen Sondheim Theater on Broadway. And don’t worry that it might be too mature for the kids; in the show, Pee-Wee wishes he could fly like one of his friends, and the show features a number of characters from the old series. There are live actors, puppets, and plenty of references to the old series.
If you’re a fan, if you still remember screaming whenever the secret word was said, then you’ll love seeing Jambi the Genie, Miss Yvonne, and even Cowboy Curtis.
Right now, the show is set to preview in late October, with a planned opening in early to mid November. This makes sense; the producers clearly want to capitalize on the holiday tourists to New York, so tickets should sell well around Thanksgiving and Christmas. There’s even talk that Paul (as Pee-Wee) will make some personal appearances across the city.
What do you think – will he show up at the Macy’s Parade?
