The unexpectedly good news for Mel Gibson has shocked both the Hollywood star’s lawyer and the judge who was presiding over the case. His ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, has now reportedly decided not to follow through with allegations of violence against Gibson.
Oksana’s lawyer shockingly went to court yesterday and told Judge Scott Gordon that his client wanted to drop all of her claims in custody court that Mel committed domestic violence against her. He also asked him to lift the protective order prohibiting contact between Mel and Oksana.
The ex-lovers are still battling bitterly over custody of their young daughter, Lucia. That has been going on for month and there is as yet no end in sight for that. But it was the allegations of Mel’s violent behaviour towards Oksana and the now infamous tape recordings that made the headlines.
Gibson was already sentenced to community service and domestic violence counselling after pleading “no contest” to a misdemeanor battery charge last month.
Now, it seems that Oksana is now keen to settle the custody of their daughter quickly and peacefully. She apparently would prefer to talk directly to Mel, not discussing this through lawyers. That is despite his apparent history of aggression against her. Interesting!
Hopefully for Lucia this custody matter can be settled quickly and amicably. It remains to be seen whether they can put all the unpleasantness of recent months behind them. But don’t hold your breath.
Witnesses present when Mel and Oksana have been together after their break-up have told of how she has “repeatedly” tried to get him involved with cooperating over Lucia’s welfare such as at doctor’s appointments. They say that Mel has always refused. He wants nothing to do with Oksana, and as yet, he doesn’t appear to be capable of putting that aside for the sake of his daughter.
