More American Idol Heartbreak: James Durbin

“American Idol” found a new front runner, in the very last auditions, taking placing in San Francisco. James Durbin is going to Hollywood! He’s also destined to go much further if the judges’ reactions are anything to go by. But Durbin had to overcome some heartbreak and serious obstacles to get this far.

James lost his musician father at the age of 9 when he overdosed on drugs. That intrigued the judges but it was his stunning voice that made him one of the season’s most memorable contestants, maybe one of the most memorable ever.

“You sing from where you need to sing from,” was the verdict of Jennifer Lopez.

A well as having to cope with losing his father at such a young age, James was diagnosed with both Asperger’s syndrome and Tourette’s shortly after his father’s death. He is not just a sob story. He has an amazing voice and the story of how he turned his life into something positive when he met his girlfriend and had a son with her is truly inspirational. He might sing the blues from the heart but he’s far from blue.

All eyes are now on James Durbin. We should expect great things from him. After receiving the judges’ unanimous approval he has clearly been positioned as a potential winner. Comparisons are already being made with the back story of Adam Lambert, also discovered in San Francisco.

So what do you think? Is James a star? Who would win in a sing-off between James Durbin and Chris Medina?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! HE IS FRIKIN AMAZING!!!! And his story is so inspirational and touching, his range and melodic sensibility as well as a unique tone! He is also kind of cute….. But seriously he is amazing and I bet you can’t sing better than that, Lah, so don’t even go there!!

Durbin a star? Evidently not based on the lack of comments. Could he be successful fronting a band-probably . But, I don’t see anything unique about him or his singing. His high notes are pitchy and uncontrolled and the rest of his singing is average. As for his personality and backstory, total overkill. I’ m already bored with him.
