“Friends” star Matthew Perry has booked himself into a rehab facility. He says he has not had a relapse into his previous alcohol and prescription drugs addiction but he wants to take some time to “focus on sobriety.” He says the rehab stint is a proactive measure.
Perry has struggled with substance abuse many times over the years. Now he is planning a few weeks in rehab to help him continue his sobriety.
In keeping with his most famous character, Chandler Bing, Matthew Perry released a statement which said: “I’m making plans to go away for a month to focus on my sobriety and to continue my life in recovery. Please enjoy making fun of me on the world wide web.”
Awwww! As if we’d make fun of his responsible decision. Perry has apparently not relapsed but he plans to enter rehab “as a proactive measure.”
This would be Matthew Perry’s third stay in rehab. He previously underwent treatment for a prescription pill addiction in 1997 and again in 2001.
He became addicted to Vicodin after a jet skiing accident. He later admitted he had been taking up to 30 pills a day before his 28-day stay at Hazelden Foundation rehabilitation centre in 1997.
In 2000 Matthew Perry was hospitalized for pancreatitis due to excessive alcohol consumption. That led to a second stay in rehab at the Promises Center in 2001.
Ten years on, Matthew Perry is asking for help from the professionals again. Do you wish more celebrities with addiction issues would follow his example?
