“Mad Men” season 6 doesn’t start until April, but fans are getting a taste of what’s to come with the release of photos and tidbits the cast is revealing. The show’s creator, Matthew Weiner, keeps a tight lid on information about storylines getting out every year and season 6 is no different.
Last week some black and white images were released by AMC that showed the main characters dressed in formal attire at an evening event. Betty Draper (played by January Jones) was back to her skinny self. Last season she wore prosthetics to appear heavier due to her thyroid issues, which turned out to be weight problems.
In an Us Weekly interview, Jones wouldn’t comment on any “Mad Men” season 6 spoilers, but did say her character would have more air time.
“We have about three episodes left to shoot, so we’re almost all the way through the season and there’s a lot of juicy exciting things that happen but I can never say,” Jones said. “I can say there will be more of the Betty character this season. I can work more since the baby is a bit older.”
Some of the fashion statements seen in the photos speak volumes about what’s ahead this coming season. The character of Henry Crane — the advertising agency’s head of the television department — was seen wearing a mustard-colored double-breasted coat with pleated khaki pants, an off-beat ascot, aviators, a side part, and noticeable sideburns. It’s almost 70s looking and extremely gawdy. He was seen driving in a red Mustang convertible with Don Draper and Roger Sterling.
Peggy Olson hasn’t left “Mad Men” just because she left the advertising agency to move on as a woman paving the way for other women in the 60s. She will still be a central character on the show and it’s likely she’s still going to be in the same social circles as her former employer.
Will Don go back to his cheating ways? That’s how it appeared by the way season 5 ended as Don locked eyes with another woman at the bar while his wife, Megan, was filming a commercial.
As the show gets closer to starting, more glimpses into season 6 will be released. What’s ahead for other characters, such as Joan Harris, Roger Sterling, and Pete Campbell? Will Joan be as big a player in the advertising agency since she became one of the partners in the advertising agency?
Find out when the 2-hour premiere of “Mad Men” season 6 airs Sunday, April 7 on AMC.
