‘Love In The Wild’ returned to NBC last night for a second season, with new host Jenny McCarthy. This time we’re in Costa Rica as the men and women pair up to hopefully win a stay in a luxurious five star room, the “Oasis”, while the other couples tough it out in cabins, tents and even some other primitive accommodations. There will also be seven wildcards this season.
The good news is: last year’s winners and runners up are still together! Maybe this reality TV dating show works.
The women chose their men in advance so here are their choices:
Cina & Chase, Tara & Tim, Summer & Jesse, Jenny & Ben, Ali & Jason, Yanina & Ken, Shauna & Christian.
Then we got seven wild card guys. Who would swap their partners?
First the women had to choose another man to form a trio: Cina chose Jason E., Ali chose Darwin, Jenny chose Frankie, Shauna chose Ryan and Yanina chose Mike and Tara chose Leo so Summer got Quaison.
This season there is new twist, with their accommodation based on their performance in tasks.
The first task was a shell hunt, after swimming out to get a map dropped from a helicopter.
Summer was the only woman to volunteer to swim out and she was in the lead. Yanina, Mike & Ken were team number one and followed the map to a well full of snakes. The men lowered Yanina, then Summer but Summer found her shell first. Ali, Jason & Darwin were last.
But the snakes had Tara and Shauna freaking out and poor Shauna even had to go back there because she dropped the map.
With Summer still in the lead, her men had to throw coconuts to break a clay mask and retrieve another map; Jesse does it and he got to kiss Summer while Quaison takes a photo. Tara was less than impressed with Tim’s kiss, despite him thinking he gave her the best five seconds of her life.
Summer’s team was leading when their boat sunk and Yanina’s boat soon goes went down too. Summer still managed to win and got the luxury accommodation. But in other news, Frankie enjoyed kissing Ben! Shana just whined a lot and Christian begged Ryan to take her off his hands.
Yanina, Ken & Mike came in second, Tara, Tim & Leo were in third place and Cina, Chase & Jason are fourth, so they all stayed in the cabins. Shauna, Christian and Ryan in fifth place and Jenny, Ben & Frankie in sixth place got rougher quarters. Last placed Ali, Jason & Darwin were in for a rough night.
What we also found out is that in each accommodation there was one bed for three people! Except those who were roughing it who got sleeping bags. Everyone seemed to want to sleep alone, though.
Next morning it was raining but Summer and her team enjoyed a Salsa lesson reward. Jesse was happy when Summer asked him for a kiss.
That’s when we discovered seven men were going home and Summer got her choice from the fourteen. So there was some getting to know each other time before the Couples Ceremony home with the trios going up one at a time so the women each choose between their two guys.
Summer had her pick of all the guys, though, as the winner. She chose Tim, leaving Tara with no choice but to pick Leo, as Tim had been stolen from under her nose. Yanina chose Ken as she felt Mike was more like a brother. Cina chose Jason E. Shauna quickly picked Ryan. I’m going to love Jenna; she chose Ben so they could be sarcastic together. Ali chose Jason.
That left Jessie, Q, Mike, Chase, Christian, Frankie and Darwin unmatched.
Then came the twist. The women could change their minds about the guys they picked or switch him out for an unmatched guy. Tara inexplicably switched to Jessie, who she hadn’t spoken to and Ali swapped for Chase.
That left the final couples choices as:
Summer & Tim
Yanina & Ken
Tara & Jessie
Cina & Jason E.
Ali & Chase
Shauna & Ryan
Jenny & Ben
Would they regret their choices? I can’t wait until next episode to find out.
