The stars are friends and business associates of two men whom federal law enforcement authorities allege were the masterminds behind the massive international criminal operation.
Foxx found himself unwittingly associated with a massive drug bust after his friend Warren Braithwaite (38) was arrested in a five-state Drug Enforcement Agency sting. The operation successfully brought down a drug ring responsible for the distribution of thousands of pounds of marijuana.
Braithwaite was someone Jamie considered a friend and business associate, but he had a secret sideline, running a crime syndicate, law enforcement agencies allege. He has already been charged in connection with these crimes.
Lady Gaga has ties to Braithwaite’s alleged fellow drug trafficker, Kevin Mucthison (47). He was her collaborator on the Heartbeats by Lady Gaga headphones. Furthermore, Mucthison (ironically a.k.a. Sincere) is also working on a headphone project with Foxx!
Braithwaite’s life of crime, which had financed a luxury Hollywood lifestyle, was brought to an end June 14, when DEA officers arrested him after a 12-month dragnet for running an illegal enterprise, known as “Mekka/Blackman.” He allegedly used UPS and FedEx trucks to transport up to 10,000 lbs. of marijuana from Mexico (worth more than $8 million dollars) and distribute them throughout the United States.
Braithwaite is thought to be the kingpin of the drug cartel.
Braithwaite was allegedly caught on wiretaps many times organizing the sale and transportation of drugs.
Less that two weeks before his arrest, Braithwaite attended a charity event with Foxx to honor the actor/singer and NBA legend Magic Johnson. Braithwaite’s company, Baron-Fleming Construction Group, had sponsored the $500-a-ticket event.
Now Braithwaite is in a Phoenix jail, charged with five felony counts related to the drug ring; he faces up to 50 years if convicted. He pleaded not guilty to all charges on June 29.
Jamie Foxx and Lady Gaga arenot under criminal investigation, but police are still actively investigating the money trail to determine how Mekka/Blackman laundered its profits. That may involve the stars later, even if they had no knowledge of these drug deals. Braithwaite certainly used his connections to Foxx to further his business dealings.
Braithwaite also has ties to Mark Jackson, the former ESPN analyst who was recently appointed head coach of the Golden State Warriors.
Jackson actually took Braithwaite to a news conference on June 10, just 4 days before Braithwaite’s arrest, when he announced his decision to leave broadcasting and accept working with Braithwaite. Braithwaite was also involved at the True Love Workship Center International, in Van Nuys, Calif., a ministry helmed by Jackson and his wife.
Apparently, people warned Jamie Foxx to stay away from Braithwaite but he did not heed the warnings. Ironically, a June 2 cocktail event that Braithwaite and Foxx attended was dedicated to preventing domestic violence, but Braithwaite has been accused of assaulting two women, both of whom were granted restraining orders against him.
Lady Gaga and Jamie Foxx have not yet commented on their alleged links to Braithwaite and Mucthison.
