Kim Novak is back with a vengeance. A vengeance in defending herself against the “bullies” who insulted her appearance at the March 2 Oscar Awards. The 81-year-old actress was the subject of much ridicule over plastic surgery done to her face. Even Donald Trump weighed in by tweeting Novak should sue her plastic surgeon.
Novak is speaking out. The actress posted a public letter on her Facebook page firing back at her critics. She shot back at the cruel comments she received by writing:
“I will no longer hold myself back from speaking out against bullies. We can’t let people get away with affecting our lives. We need to stand up to them in a healthy way by speaking out, working out and acting out. I am speaking out now because I don’t want to harbor unhealthy feelings inside me anymore.”
Kim Novak wrote that she had injections in 2012 for a TCM interview special. She admitted in an interview seen on People that the sudden criticism following the awards show threw her “into a tailspin.” Mean social media comments had a negative impact on her.
“For days, I didn’t leave the house, and it got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” Kim said.
“Years ago, I walked away from Hollywood partially because I didn’t stand up to the bullies. I caved in to the pressure instead of fighting for what I felt was right…and I didn’t have the courage to prove myself to my peers through my work.”
Kim Novak remained silent after the Oscars. Like anyone else in her situation, she was hurt by at what critics wrote online about her plastic surgery. Just because she’s an actress, it didn’t make the heavy volume of comments any less painful.
Novak confessed in her Facebook letter that she took a pill before the Oscars to relax and wound up regretting it. She fasted for three days before and recognized that it affected her behavior as presenter with Matthew McConaughay.
Kim Novak currently lives in Oregon and enjoys a life of painting and exercise. She hopes to see more people stand up to bullying because “there would be less suffering and violence, too!”
