Perry has managed to top the chart with five tracks from her second studio album “Teenage Dream.” That is a remarkable feat of musical talent and good luck. Perhaps it is even more amazing when you consider that the singer is still only in her mid-twenties.
The number ones from her latest album so far include the singles “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.” and the latest smash hit, “Last Friday Night.”
These tracks also take five of the top six positions in the highest-ever weekly spins on US pop radio. “Last Friday Night” was the one most played this week, with 12,468 plays, according to Billboard, who compile the chart.
“Last Friday Night” is Perry’s seventh single to top the Pop Songs chart. She also did well with “Hot ‘n’ Cold” and “Waking Up In Vegas.”
Katy Perry has also equaled Lady Gaga’s record of six consecutive number ones on the US Pop Songs chart. Rihanna still retains the record for the highest overall number of chart-topping entries with eight.
But Perry has not yet topped the US Hot 100 with “Last Friday Night.” She is currently at number two.
If Katy Perry (26) is successful in getting her fifth Hot 100 number one off her “Teenage Dream” album, she will equal the record set by Michael Jackson’s “Bad” album back in 1988.
Does Katy Perry have a chance of equaling Michael Jackson’s record with a fifth Hot 100 number one from this album? What’s your favorite “Teenage Dream” single? Is there another song from the album which you would like to see released as a single?
