The host hopes that the singer will appear on his show to address the issue of Mariah Yeater (20) accusing Bieber of being the father of her baby. She has filed a law suit for child maintenance payments after she claimed he fathered her 3-month-old.
Bieber is out of the country at the moment but he has previously said he will take a DNA paternity test when he returns to the US. He denies that he is the father and in fact says he has never met Mariah Yeater.
She in turn claims that her child is a result of a 30-second sexual encounter with Bieber, back stage at one of his concerts, when he led her into a bathroom.
If this is true, Yeater may herself face a statutory rape charge as Justin Bieber was (still is) below the age of consent in that particular state.
The Maury team are hoping Justin Bieber will take the paternity test on their show. Its former executive producer said this would be a huge TV event if he was to agree to that. Amy Rosenblum credits herself with being the first person to bring the DNA test to TV.
She pointed out that Maury is trusted by millions of viewers, and so whatever the result of the Justin Bieber paternity test, people would believe it if they were told by Maury.
If you were Justin Bieber, would you take Maury Povich up on his invitation?
