Jon Gosselin claimed in a report that surfaced Wednesday that he can’t afford paying ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, child support for their eight children. He said his domestic-relations staff informed him that if he doesn’t pay child support, he could face prison time. He complained that he can’t even cover rent because he’s flat broke.
“I can’t afford to pay my rent and the domestic-relations staff tells me they will put me in jail unless I pay child support,” Jon told RadarOnline. “I am a single father who’s trying to make ends meet during a recession. What do I do — pay child support or rent? I need to support my kids, but I could lose my house, and I need my home to continue to have custody.”
This statement got the attention of Kate Gosselin and her attorney, Cheryl Young, spoke on her behalf.
“I read Jon’s statement on RadarOnline.com and was quite surprised to read that he claims to be struggling to keep his child support paymentscurrent,” Young said. “As of April 27, 2012, Kate voluntarily relieved Jon of all current and future child support obligationsfor their eight children.”
Even if Jon Gosselin has hit bottom, he still owes arrears in child support that was owing after April 27.
“Currently, he is only paying a small amount on arrears for support that was not paid prior to the April date when she dropped support,” Kate’s attorney continued. “Those payments will soon end meaning that Kate is the sole supporter of the parties’ children.”
Cheryl Young added that it was never Kate’s intention to see her ex-husband have financial problems. Jon couldn’t help but slam the mother of his children for having more money because she’s still in the public spotlight. Despite a recent apology he made to Kate in June that he felt bad for the way he treated her, he’s slinging mud her way again.
