Plans for the US version of “X Factor” are in disarray over the coveted judging and presenting roles. Jennifer Lopez has reportedly done a U-turn on her decision to defect from her judging role on “American Idol” to “X Factor”, something few people knew she was considering.
The 41 year old US singer and actress was reportedly asked to defect to the “X Factor” shortly after she joined “American Idol” when Simon Cowell saw how well fans of the show welcomed her arrival and the rapport she had with the would-be pop stars auditioning. She was reportedly “bowled over” by Simon Cowell’s charming offer, until another Simon (this time, Fuller, boss of “American Idol”) persuaded her to stay with his show.
The withdrawal of J-Lo from the “X Factor” caused a desperate scramble for places on the judging panel, with Cheryl Cole and Nicole Scherzinger as the main contenders. It’s expected that they will be successful, despite initial worries that Cheryl’s strong Geordie accent will not be understood in the US. Where Katie Price, the Page 3 topless model formerly known as Jordan, fits in, is anybody’s guess but today she Tweeted that we should watch out for some surprising news about her and “X Factor”
Meanwhile, Dermot O’Leary, host of the UK’s “X Factor” impatiently waits to discover if he has secured the US hosting job. Latest reports say he is losing confidence, believing US TV bosses want an American host, but watch this space. Simon Cowell has championed O’Leary, saying he believes there is room for two Brits on the Stateside show.
