Jeff Conaway Update: Pneumonia, Not OD – and He’s Improving!

“Grease” star Jeff Conaway (60) was hospitalized due to pneumonia, not a prescription drugs overdose. And far from being at death’s door, he is improving, states Dr. Drew Pinsky.

Dr. Pinsky visited Jeff Conaway late on Friday evening (May 20) and Tweeted his view that the cause of Conaway’s illness was “not an OD like press is alleging.”

Phil Brock, a rep for Conaway had also confirmed that the star has been “showing some improvement.”

Conway was rushed to a Los Angeles area hospital by ambulance earlier last week after being found unconscious in his home. The actor has a history of drug addiction and was featured on “Celebrity Rehab” in 2008.

However, it seems reports from those supposedly close to Conaway that this was a suicide attempt are wrong. Shortly after he is alleged to have taken an overdose, Conaway called a friend, the actor Ethan Tudor W., who appeared in several British TV programs.

In the call. Conaway can be heard badly slurring his words and unable to leave his telephone number for his friend to call him back. But he does not mention suicide or an overdose. In fact, he looks to the future, saying,

“Lot of changes going on in my life. I’m moving into a new place in a couple of weeks, working like crazy to get this script done.”

It doesn’t sound like a suicidal man. Let’s all hope Jeff Conaway wakes from his coma and gets the treatment he so badly needs. Whatever the cause of his slipping into unconsciousness before he was picked up by ambulance, he will need to face up to it and deal with it.
