According to St James’ Palace spokespeople, the Duchess of Cambridge is having a very “low-key” affair to celebrate turning 31.
The Palace confirmed that Kate, who is around 12 weeks pregnant, and who was recently hospitalized due to severe morning sickness, is expected to spend the day with her husband Prince William at their home in Anglesey, North Wales.
Her birthday celebrations may be low-key, but it seems her birthday present is not so understated.
It was recently claimed that Wills plans to buy her a country estate as a birthday gift so they have a retreat out of the city after they move into their apartment in London’s Kensington Palace.
Not bad, eh? And it’s not even a special birthday!
A source said: “They’ve talked about getting a place where they can get away from it all. And now William has narrowed down the list to a few incredible places in Hampshire and Buckinghamshire around the £5 million mark.
“They don’t want to be too close to London as they are already based in Kensington Palace. William has gathered together various property details from some high-end retail estates which he will give to her on her birthday on January 9.”
So how will Kate celebrate her landmark birthday, her last before becoming a mother?
Insiders say the Duchess is hoping to celebrate with a small family lunch or dinner, and enjoy her last birthday with Prince William, before they welcome their first child into the world.
There is also said to be a “surprise” is store for her, depending on how well she feels today. There could be a very small lunch party with family and friends at which she can open her gifts, if she’s feeling up to it. Or, if she’s feeling good, they’ll throw a big family dinner in the evening.
A source close to Kate says she just wants to spend the day quietly with her family and enjoy her last birthday with Prince William before they have a baby to look after.
A spokesman at St James’s Palace simply said the Duchess will be marking her birthday ‘privately’.
Happy birthday Kate Middleton – and happy house- (I mean, estate-) hunting!
