Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Jay-Z and Beyonce and so quite possibly the most famous baby in the world (at least until; Prince William and Kate Middleton’s baby is born) celebrates her first birthday today, January 7th. I’m sure she’s learned to do so much over the past year, and it’s safe to say that Blue Ivy Carter has made plenty of headlines so far in her short life. Let’s celebrate her birthday with a look back at the media frenzy surrounding her first year on Earth.
Before she was even born, Blue Ivy was making headlines. The hip hop couple revealed their pregnancy at the MTV Video Music Awards. Beyonce hinted on the red carpet about and impending announcement and then told the world, following her live performance of ‘Love On Top’.
Twitter went crazy after the pregnancy was revealed, with a record high of 8,868 tweets per second around the world. So Blue Ivy was trending before she was even born!
Another pre-natal headline grabber detailed how the celebrity couple had rented out an entire wing of a hospital so as to maintain privacy. They apparently spent $1.3million ensuring they had the whole fourth floor of the Lennox Hill Hospital to themselves.
Following her birth in January last year the media frenzy continued. There were of course a flurry of celebrity congratulation tweets and the inevitable first photo paparazzi stakeout. But the couple are fiercely protective of protecting Blue Ivy from paparazzi and she usually appears in public shrouded in a blanket, or on long-range lens shots.
The parents want to control how their daughter is seen, and Blue Ivy’s first pictures were released to the public via Tumblr. The music moguls set up the account with photographs of the family and the statement: “We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives. The Carter family.”
Blue Ivy music history, as the youngest person to ever appear on the Billboard chart. Jay-Z released the song ‘Glory’ featuring ‘BIC’ just two days after her birth, on which you can hear her crying.
Possibly what attracted most attention was how much stuff was bought for her.
A source for Star magazine said that after the birth: “Together they’ve bought a Swarovski-studded high chair by Carla Monchen for £10,000, and a Fantasy ‘posh tots’ coach carriage crib for £30,000. Jay-Z bought Beyonce a solid gold handmade Ginza Tanaka rocking horse for £400,000. They’ve even splashed out on a £20,000 magical windmill playhouse for the garden and a mini Bugatti car, too.”
Most recently it has been claimed the couple spend a reported $1million a year on renting the entire basement suite at the home of the Brooklyn Nets, the Barclays Center as Blue Ivy’s nursery. The room is apparently filled with toys for the baby and a champagne bar for the adults. Sounds like a great place for a birthday party.
All this in just one year. Can Kanye and Kim’s baby outdo Blue? How about William and Kate’s little one?
