Halle Berry Plays Down Nahla’s Custody Battle

How quickly things change in Hollywood. A few weeks ago, the dispute between Halle Berry and her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry for custody of their daughter seemed far more vitriolic than anything Charlie Sheen and Brook Mueller were thrashing out behind closed doors (then!).

Now, Halle Berry is at pains to stress to fans that the problem isn’t as bad as the media has been reporting. She said that the issues around daughter Nahla’s custody and other matters were almost at a resolution.

It had been reported earlier this year that Halle Berry had backed out of a film and a play in New York, to fight this custody battle. She also publicly hit out at ex-boyfrend Aubrey’s “lack of co-operation”. It was widely thought that Aubrey had issued an ultimatum to Halle: you want to work on set and travel for work? Then Nahla stays with me!

However, today, Halle has spoken out publicly to insist that their court battle over Nahla’s custody had never been what it seemed.

She told the news show, “Extra”,

“Our issues were never about fighting for her.”

She said that both she and her ex-boyfriend were fully aware that a child needed two parents and were both committed to making sure she had that. However, she continued,

“sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse. We need a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues…”

For Halle and Gabriel, and so, thankfully, for Nahla, things seem to have been sorted out. What was once an acrimonious public shouting each other down by the parents, has been resolved amicably, according to the actress.

“I’m so happy we’ve arrived at that place, because, for her sake, this is the best way. We both love her more than life.” Charlie? Brook? Are you listening…?
