Filipino pop singer and Glee actress Charice got some terrible news this week. Her father has been stabbed to death with an ice pick.

Charice achieved international fame through performances on YouTube, eventually appearing on major US television shows such as the Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Oprah Winfrey Show. She then got a recurring role in the second season of Glee as Sunshine Corazon and there are talks to bring her back in Glee season 3.

Police announced today that the death of her father took place during a drunken street fight in the Phillipines. The Glee star has now cancelled her planned overseas tour to be with her family.

Construction worker Ricky Pempengco (39) died after being stabbed repeatedly late on Monday night after an altercation with another drinker in a street in an agricultural town south of Manila, police said.

Police are still searching for the suspect in the killing.

Meanwhile Glee star Charice (19), who was born Charmaine Clarice Relucio Pempengco but uses the stage name Charice, has Tweeted about her father in both Filipino and English.

Charice’s father’s violent and abusive behavior has commonly been quote in the Filippino media as the reason for the family break up. But she said they had been close until her parents separated when she was a young child, and the children stayed with their mother but she loved him still and would always love him. Charice is now pulling out of the concerts in Singapore to be with her family in the Philippines.
