The next season of Glee will see some casting changes. The most significant one is probably the phasing out of Sam Evans, played by Chord Overstreet. However, it is believed that Sam will return for a few guest appearances.
On the plus side, the change means that Dalton Academy glee club captain Blaine Anderson, played by Darren Criss, is expected to step up to become a series regular. The same can also be said of as is slick dancer Mike, played by Harry Shum Jr. For those gleeks eager for more Ashley Fink, a.k.a Lauren Zizes, who already feels more like a regular than a guest star, I’m afraid there’s no such luck. Insiders on Glee report that she will make fewer appearances in Season 3.
Chord Overstreet has already Tweeted his reaction to being let go from the show.
“It’s been a good year. Too bad it’s over. Time for summer and starting fresh.”
The reason for these changes? Glee show runner Ryan Murphy recently revealed that many of the show’s major characters will graduate high school next year and may be written out of the program.
“We didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for eight years,” Murphy said. “We really wanted it to be true to that experience. We thought it would be really cool if we were true to the time line.”
Do you approve of them staying true to life in this way? Or would you rather see your Glee favourites hang on in there as perpetual students?
